Acupuncture doesn't hurt, Acupuncture needles are extremely fine almost like hair and it is sometimes hard to even feel that the needles have been inserted. You can feel a pressure like sensation and at times they can begin to ache.

However if you are worried or you have a needle phobia, make sure that you mention this when you make your first appointment so that I can put you at ease.
How many treatments do I need and how often?
It is impossible to say how many treatments some body will need with out a proper consultation and diagnosis process. What can be said is that generally more recent complaints are easier to treat than more chronic and long term conditions.

Usually treatments are schedules weekly, sometimes by weekly at the beginning of treatment, however this can be then moved to a monthly maintenance treatment once a balance has been achieved in order to stay healthy.
How does Acupuncture work?
There is no simple answer to how Acupuncture works. The systemic knowledge and understanding of human functioning that Acupuncture has, is very different from modern Weston medicine and not directly translatable. There are a number of suggestions of the underlying mechanisms of acupuncture but none come forth with a clear and definite answer.

We know from our experiences that acupuncture works, however understanding how it does it, in western specific terms may have to wait for further advancements in the fields of modern medicines as well as science.

Five Element Acupuncture restores balance to the energy of the Causative Factor or your predominant element. Rather than simply treating symptoms as a Five element practitioner you treat the patient as a whole, leading to a longer level of wellbeing.
Acupuncture for pain relief works by stimulating the pain area to heal its self, by inflicting a small trauma, it encourages the body to start healing that area. Also using needles on trigger points which are tight bands of muscle can encourage the muscle to release giving instant relief from pain.
